Balloch, Loch Lomond
Balloch - from the Gaelic "Beul Loch" meaning mouth of the loch - is the first sight of Loch Lomond for the tourist. The scenery is dominated by the imposing stature of Ben Lomond the most southerly of Scottish mountains. This is where the Highlands meets the Lowlands. Sir Walter Scott considered Loch Lomond as the Queen of Scotland's Lochs
The Balloch Highland Gathering is hosted each year on the second Saturday in July (check what's on pages) in the grounds of the castle. Balloch Country Park with spectacular views over Loch Lomond boasts a tranquil walled garden and miles of countryside walks. Guided walks are provided if required.
Sailing on the Loch is available daily. Cruises leave every hour and they sail past six of Loch Lomond's stately homes. A 2½ hr cruise is also available and stops at Luss (as seen in the High Road) for half and hour.
Evening cruises are available during July and August. For boat owners Loch Lomond provides the perfect sailing experience with a choice of moorings along the shores offering excellent food and or entertainment.
Balloch Village boasts many varied restaurants ranging from traditional Scottish fare to world wide cuisine.
