Tarbet, Loch Lomond

Tarbet (the name 'tarbet' derived from the Old Norse for 'a place of portage' - a narrow stretch of land over which the Vikings transported their longships from Loch Long to Loch Lomond) was described by Queen Victoria as "a small town" with "splendid passes, richly wooded and the highest mountains rising behind" a picturesque village on the "bonnie banks" less than two miles from Arrochar. Enjoy a loch cruise or just admire the scenery dominated by Ben Lomond.

The community of Ardlui is situated a few miles north of Tarbet at the head of Loch Lomond. Visit the marina for boat hire and water sports.

Just beyond the head of the loch in Glen Falloch you will find the village of Inverarnan. Visit the world famous Drovers Inn and enjoy its unique atmosphere.
