Rosneath Peninsula, Loch Lomond

The rosneath peninusla is situated to the west of Helensburgh lying between the Gare Loch and Loch Long in Argyll and Bute, on the north shore of the Firth of Clyde. Rosneath Peninsula is 6 miles (10 km) in length and 2.5 miles (4 km) wide at it's widest point. Its settlements include Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath, Kilcreggan, Cove and Coulport.

Garelochhead lies at the head of the Rosneath Peninsula, 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Helensburgh. In addition to a few local shops, pubs and churches, it has a bowling club and a Community Centre at the Gibson Hall. Loch Lomond lies to the East and Loch Long to the West of Garelochhead.

Garelochhead developed in the early 19th Century largely aided by the advent of steamer cruising. With the opening of the West Highland Railway line to Oban in 1894 tourism increased the area's prosperity. Into the late 20th century its prosperity was further boosted by the deepwater terminal on Loch Long and the Faslane naval base.

Garelochhead was a summer retreat for Glaswegians who would arrive from the Gare Loch and spend time in one of the Garelochhead hotels before the Faslane naval base was constructed.
