


The Old Smiddy was built in 1862 and was used as a blacksmiths shop until the middle of the 1900's. There is a lot of history surrounding the place itself which enjoys modern features as well as reminders of years gone by. The Old Smiddy Cottage is built over Ballagan burn where there used to be the Old Smiddy workshop where there was a trap door and the cart wheels were fired up and dropped down through this door to cool down. The Apartment has been newly refurbished and forms part of the original blacksmiths house and has many feature to this day.
Until recently the Old Smiddy Cottage was used as a very successful B&B and therefore has all the requirements requested by the Tourist Board. Private parking is available and can easily accommodate a car and boat if required. There is also a patio for guest use. The Old Smiddy Cottage is attached on to the main dwelling but is completely separate in every other way.
The Cottage and Apartment have gas central heating throughout and although electricity and gas are included in the price over use may result in a payment at the end of the stay. New for 2010 free WiFi in both places.
Located within and forming part of the boundary of Scotland First National Park the former blacksmiths house is attached on to the Cottage offers a very comfortable, well appointed and modern facility. There is a comfortable sitting room with black watch tartan carpet, colour cable tv, dvd and cd, a bookcase full of information and magazines. There are two en-suite bedrooms, a double bedroom which includes a sofa bed that could be used for one adult or two children and a twin room with two single beds. The Apartment has sitting room with dvd, cabnle tv, Lindsay tartan carpet, double-en-suite bedroom, single bedroom, kitchen and shower/toilet room. Smoking is not permitted within The Old Smiddy Cottage and Apartment. The cottage and apartment are all on one level, apartment has a small step down to bedroom.
We are situated within Loch Lomond National Park and only five/six minutes walk away from Loch Lomond and all it has to offer, peace and quiet away from the bustle of city life and for the more active holiday there is sailing, golfing, fishing, water ski-ing, horse riding facilities and if you are a hill walker there are plenty of mountains to climb. Various sporting activities including shooting, canoeing, off road driving and quad biking are available locally, details can be supplied on request.Balloch is centrally located for Glasgow and the airports and a train journey from Balloch will take about 40 minutes and cost around £5 return. Stirling is 35 minutes drive and Glasgow aiport is 20 minutes from Balloch. There is also a bus service that you can take to Glasgow and also a bus service to the east side of Loch Lomond near to the foot of Ben Lomond. Also buses can take you to Drymen to join the West Highland Way.
